To educate/educating consumers about

Given the fact that there’s concern about counterfeits in Vietnam, Mr Ngo said that his company’s task is to educate consumers about the purchase of genuine products via WB branded outlets, and it will use all available means within Vietnam’s legal system to combat counterfeits.

I am wondering if it is also OK to replace the phrase "to educate consumers about..." by "educating consumers about...."
I'd like to hear the opinions of native speakers. Thanks.

No, it's not possible to substitute to educate with educating in this instance.

Grammatically, it is fine. However, it shifts the meaning to focus on a present activity rather than a future goal.

....Mr Ngo said that his company’s task is educating consumers...

I can't see what is grammatically wrong with that, Elanguest, though I have indicated above why I think it is not the best choice.

Thanks. Does that mean the infinitive shows the action "educating" still is an intention? It has not conducted.

Dr. Wong is a teacher. His task is educating students. (That is his activity, or what he does. He might not even like it.)
Dr. Liu is a teacher. His task is to educate students. (That is not only an activity but it implies that he has a sense of responsibility, mission, intention, or goal.)

I would rather have Dr. Liu for my teacher.
