to do away with invective?

Hi! everyone.
I was reading the newspaper this morning and stumbled upon this sentence. Could someone tell me what the sentence means especially the one in bold?
Unfortunately these agreements to do away with invectives have been honored more in breach than in compliance.
I don't understand the syntax of the sentence. What position does the bold one serve here?
Thanks!
