Hello, What's the difference between: "They derided/ridiculed his plan for saving money" in your opinion? To deride something is basically to criticize it in a contemptuous way. Ridiculing something would involve laughing at it and/or making jokes about it in a harsh or cruel way. I think one could deride something by ridiculing it.
I am probably wrong so feel free to correct me. Thank you.
