Not at all. I clearly means that he did not. He interfered with its motion so that it went off to one side or up rather than into the old onion bag.

No. Just the opposite. He hit it away so that it did not go into the goal.

It could imply the goalkeeper grabbed the ball, like doing a side jump or any move, to deflect the trajectory of the ball, but not necessarily. He could just as much deflect the ball by striking it with his hands also.
