to decide whether to use THE for schools

In Hong Kong, very often I don't know whether to use THE for schools. For this pre-British colony, we use THE according to the equivalents in Britain. So in England, a harbour doesn't have THE, then the harbour next to our university doesn't have THE. But for schools:

Downside School, no THE;
the Glasgow School, always with THE.

When someone in HK sets up a school, how should he decide?

Thanks.

In Britain, schools do not normally use 'the'. eg We say 'Eton', not 'The Eton'. The word 'The' is sometimes used when the word 'School' is part of the official name.
