to corroborate something

Hello,
Would it be acceptable to say: "What the professor said corroborates my theory."? In even more informal contexts, can we say "Jack corroborated what I said."?

I have seen it used very differently, but I am asking out of idle curiosity.

I know it's actually a formal word. Emotion: smile I think it would be much more informal to use "back up". We can back up theories, can't we? I k

Gene93I know we can support them. Support is probably somewhere in the middle.
Agree. 'support' is a word that comes up frequently in dictionary definitions of 'corroborate'.
