"to correct" or "for correcting"? (Q) - URGENT ANSWER PLEASE

My first question is,
Is this sentence a noun phrase or clause?
"Thanks John for correcting me."

If it's the clause then what is its verb?

Secondly,
Can we use,
"Thanks John for the correction." instead of the above mentioned sentence?

And
Can we use,
"Thanks John to correct."
