To correct

1. At an early stage in his travels, Henry James, writing from abroad, described the subtle differences distinguishing Americans from Europeans.

A) same

B) Henry James, whose writing at an early stage in his travels

I chose B, both work because "described ...." can either refer to himself or his writing.



2. The grooved and barbed spears of the box jellyfish, each trailed by a poison thread, is released when the animal is threatened. No error.

I think no error.




3. The valuable stringed instruments in this display, all more than 300 years old, were carefully crafted by artisans famous in their day but long since forgotten. No error.

Hi MIA6 I'd suggest this: 1. If you have to leave "from abroad" in the sentence, then I'd say to leave the sentence the same 2. Change "is released" to "are released" (because of the plural "spears") 3.
