to clearify

Hi,

I think Clive said that something to the effect that a proper name like ZZZ Station is normally used without the article the but when a foreigner who is unfamiliar with the place is using the name ZZZ Station, it is used with the.

If that is true, why is that? What part does one's unfamilarity play in the placement of the definite article in front of such proper names?

Sorry if my question isn't clear.

I doubt that Clive was saying that was a rule (it isn't). He was just pointing out that this tends to happen.

Just a little added clarification:

You should write "clarify" (i.e. without an "e"). Emotion: wink
