Vocabulary

to buy/pay insurance

Hello,
I hear a lot of people use "buy" in collocation with insurance, but something smells iffy here. I think I have used it as well. Would it be "normal" to ask someone: "Where can I buy car insurance in this town?" or "I am going to pay my monthly health insurance on Tuesday"? Yes, in some countries we pay for "proper" healthcare. I know it sucks. I see that "get" is also used a lot, but that's no surprise. What do you think? What's common in your experience?

Thank you. Does that mean that "I am going to pay for my monthly health insurance on Tuesday" would sound better than the version without "for"? For some reason I have forgotten to put it in.

Right. Pay for is what you want here. You could pay the premium, the price, the fee, the fare or the bill. Those tricky little prepositions!

Hehe. That makes sense. We pay for things we get, right? In this case "proper healthcare".
