To blow out

Hello,

What is the meaning of 'blow out' in this sentence? Does it simply mean to put a flame out by blowing?

One firefighter said that the winds can blow the fire out of the area very easily.

Thanks

Sorry, I think in a fire situation like the one happened in the Oakland Hills, Calif. some years ago, not only did the wind not blow out the fire, contrarily, it fanned the fire out of control burning for days and subsequently destroyed hundreds of hill-side homes.

But you can blow out a lit candle. ( to extinguish).

Nina_Nia the winds can blow the fire out of the area
In this case, the wind causes the fire to spread beyond the original area.

No. Be cautious about the difference:

blow the fire out. ~ extinguish the fire with a gust of wind (even if from a person's lungs!)
blow the fire out of the area ~ cause the fire to move away from one area and into another

Hi,
Oops! It was careless of me not to read the greater context carefully. Thanks, khoff, for your further comment. Emotion: wink
