To be the one man//the only man who could take such a city

Agamemnon had long wished to be the one man who could take such a city, as rich and strong as it (Troy) was.
... the only man who could take such a rich and strong city as Troy was.

Hi,
Does the second in the above correctly take the first? Thanks.
