Vocabulary

To be run vs to be powered

Dear users,

I am doing an exercise from Advance Language Practice by Michael Vince. I like the book a lot but unfortunately the key does not provide any explanation of why an answer is wrong. I can't figure out why in the following sentence run is better than powered.

This small vacuum cleaner is motivated/run/powered by batteries.

Could you help me please?

Anonymous I can't figure out why in the following sentence run is better than powered. It's the exact opposite for me. I would say either "This small vacuum cleaner is powered by batteries" or "This small vacuum cleaner runs on batteries".
