To be run?

I would like to modify the sentence 'grounds are for running' into 'grounds are meant to be run in'.
Is the latter sentence correct?
What I really intend to say is, grounds are meant for running/jogging. How can I say it using 'meant to be'? Please help.

The grounds are meant to be run upon. (It's rather formal sounding, however.)
