Could you please help me on this?

"Due to the rotation of the Earth, the probe was pulled from its orbit by around 2 meters per year."

Regarding the fact that the probe was going around the earth, does this sentence mean that the probe was getting nearer to earth?

No. It may have been getting nearer or farther. The sentence only says that the orbit was altered, not the direction. Still, if the earth pulls on the probe, I suppose the intention is to suggest that the probe gets closer to the earth. Even so, I would not bet on it! Maybe t
