To be out of my comptence??

Hello,

today I had a problem in deciding how to formulate this concept:

My customer had a special request and I had to explain that I cannot satisfy it. My idea was to express the concept this way:

"This is out of our competence" but I am not sure it works. I have also thought about different alternatives:

"This is not our task ....", "This is not our duty.."

In the end, since I had to answer quickly, I preferred to avoid the problem and say: "We are not responsible for this.."

Plese teachers help me.

Thank you

Pamela

Do you mean to say in fact that "This is not my job," or that "I'd like to help, but I'm not competent to solve your problem (not capable of solving your problem)"? That is, when you said, "We are not responsible for this," was it a little white lie? - A.

Hi,

thank you but as said I would be able to do that. It is not my job only.

I think you must formulate in your mind exactly why you do not routinely do this sort of thing.
My own view is that honesty is the best policy. (Perhaps it depends on what business you're in.)
As a consumer, I resent being given an evasive answer.

You can always pass the buck and explain that it's not company policy to do this sort of thing.
But then the client is mad at the

Hi Avangi!
thank you so much for your efforts to understand my problem, I thought that it was quite simple to explain this but maybe I am not able to let you understand. :-(
I would´t say that "I am not allowed"this would be definitely too strong, I could do it, but this would be something "extra" if you understand me.
I have found right now this expression and hope it helps: "to fall

So the long and the short of it is that you're looking for a diplomatic way to say, "That's not my job."

(Why can't you just be nice and do it?)

I don't know much about Italian briefs. I haven't heard that expression.
It reminds me of "That does not fall within my purview." But to me this is very high register language for the sort of business you're conducting.

Hi Pamela,
What do you think of this suggestion?

Hi John,

oh yes, this could work!! It could have come to mind before since I know the verb "to authorize" and "to collect" but it is so hard to think like you English native speakers
