To be off the grid

I've seen this idiom in a dialogue on a movie. What does "to be off the grid" mean?

Thank you.

Hi wont, If you are "off the grid" you are not connected to the electrical system. You live on your own, possibly without being connected to society at all -- although it could simply mean that you generate your own power and otherwise interact with society. If the show was a crime show, it could also have been used to mean that the person has no identity - no credit cards, no driver's license and therefore is impossible to track.
