Vocabulary

to be into sth vs to like sth

Hi
According to my dictionary they mean the same, but dictionaries can't really tell you things like that and differences.

So tell me about the difference between those two.

thanks a lot

Hi, to like something I think you probably understand this OK already to be into something This is slang, so don't use it in your job interview or your formal essay, OK? It really means 'to be involved with something or interested in something'. So, sometimes it's similar to 'like'.

"I'm into X" suggests more of a commitment than "I like X."   If I say "I like heavy metal," that could mean I'll listen to a Metallica song if I hear one on the radio.  If I say "I'm into heavy metal," I probably research obscure bands, go to a lot of concerts, etc.
