To be away from sb/sth

Hello,
I'm looking for an expression, idiom or simile meaning to be really far away from sth/sb. i'm still struggling with translation of the expression literally '' a man and a woman are away from each other for a length of a hipotenuse of a love triangle''.
Thank you

What do you mean by "the length of the hypotenuse of a love triangle"? Are they having an affair and, because of that, they've become distant?

Yes, that is the case.

Maybe "they've become strangers" could work for you. I can't think of anything better now.

Can you, please, tell me if this can function as an individual metaphorical expression:

in the triangle of love there is the hypotenuse standing between us/ dividing us.

The context, in which you say that sentence, would have to be very clear If I were to understand the metaphor.
