Title of a research project

I am translating the name of a research project. Does the following make sense to you?

"A comprehensive study of abilities to think, judge and express, emphasised in essay-type university entrance exams in France, and their development"

Top answer

No, it doesn't make sense. eg emphasized does not seem to be a suitable word. eg The position of 'their' suggests that it refers to' exams', not to 'abilities'.
