Title in England or Scot

Hello,

This is my 1st message. I'm very interested in English old stories, but I still don't know about some titles used in old England. What's the different between: King, Lord, Duke, Thane, Nobleman, and maybe the others you can tell me about. Can a nobleman title be used by a common person (citizen) who is very wealthy.
Nowadays, I study English and I want to impove it with this forum.

Thanks.

I do not think that all English speakers could fully define all of these. Most of these are hereditary titles passed on from father to son, and plenty of us in the UK would be happy to see them left in history. King, presumably you know, is the "top man" in the country or territory.

  • Lords and Dukes are lower down system, but still very high status .
  • Nobleman is a general term for someone with some sort of status or wealth.
