Tired / sleepy

I am a Japanese. Today my American friend said she was tired after lunch. We Japanese sometimes feel sleepy after lunch, but seldom feel tired after lunch. I told her we believe you feel sleepy after lunch because of biological or nervous system, and never feel tired only because we have had lunch, but she says she is tired whenever she feels sleepy. Is this a cultural difference or linguistic one?

I believe that ' tired ' and ' sleepy ' are two different concepts but they are inter-related too. If a person gets tired, he may feel sleepy too. I think both refer to the same thing but using different words
