Till Death Us Do Part - What about the coo...

The BBC showed an old b&w clip of Johnny Speight's Till Death Do Us Part where the Garnett family are waiting to give blood at a hospital. Alf Garnett (Warren Mitchell) looks around and spots a black man - he says to the others...
'What about the coo...',
notices that the black man has heard him and is looking, smiles and nods and says,
'Alright, mate?'.
The audience roared with laughter - it was very funny.

I'm not sure if that made it to the American version, All In The Family! :-D
Cockney Johnny Speight said black folk were forever coming up to him in the street and saying how much they loved the show - always good when you can laugh at yourself!

Speight and Mitchell were both socialists. Mitchell was for a time upset that people associated Garnett's views with Mitchell's. Garnett was also a West Ham fan. I believe Mitchel
