tights

I think know what pantyhose are.
1. My question is, what's the difference between pantihose and tight?
2. Is pantyhose singular? What's the pural, pantyhoses?

Tights or pantihose?

Thanks.

No difference. Just manufacturers' preferences as to what to call them,. As with the word "hose" meaning stockings, the word is uncountable.

I would say there are some differences in usage, although in some cases you could use either term.

Pantyhose defintely have feet. Tights might or might not have feet. (Dancers might wear tights that leave their feet bare.)

If they are very sheer (very thin material, probably see-through) and some variation of skin-color, like silk or nylon stockings, I would call them pantyhose.

I believe there have been tights as long as there has been the ballet. It seems to me like pantyhose originated in the 60's. At the time I thought it was an ingenious way for women who chose to wear full length stockings to avoid the inconvenience of garter belts. (Personally, I always liked garter belts.)
