Hmm. This is a real puzzle. I would have said the same, but somewhere on this forum there's a post that claims otherwise. They said that BrE speakers use "gotten", but not the way that AmE speakers do, but I don't recall that details were ever given, so I never did quite understand the difference in usage. Right or

BrE speakers wouldn't say 'he has gotten a ticket', but we would say 'it has gotten colder' or 'he has gotten so argumentative lately'. so we use 'gotten' to mean 'become' but not in place of 'has got'

I have never heard a BrE speaker use 'gotten'.
