thumb wrestling

<thumb wresting> I watched them interlock their hands and pin down [each other's thumbs/the other's thumb]

Are both the same?
Thanks.

I'd go with "each other's thumbs" or "one another's thumbs" "the other's thumb" doesn't sound right.

Hi,
<thumb wresting> I watched them interlock their hands and pin down [each other's thumbs/the other's thumb]

This sounds like both people's thumbs get pinned down. Surely the result is that only one thumb gets pinned down?

<thumb wresting> I watched them interlock their hands and try to pin down each other's thumb.
