Throw one a curve

Hi,

Can I use 'throw a curve' when talking about questions in the exam that caught me by surprise?

"A few of the questions in the exam threw me a curve. I just didn't know how to deal with them."

Thank you.

It's more natural to say that the examiner (s) , rather than the question, threw me a curve. You might also look at the expression 'threw me for a loop'
