Would you say both in and into work here?

Throw it into the dustbin please.

You can use both wordings but, they are a bit wordy. You don't really need to use into . The dust part of dustbin is not strictly necessary.

You don't really need to use into. The dust part of dustbin is not strictly necessary. Bin http://dictionary.cambridge.org/dictionary/british/bin , would be sufficient.

In American English, it is trash can
