Hi,
The American-born woman and her friend Kiri-Ann Hatfield followed the man, threw a drink in his face, and proceeded to punch him.
Is it wrong if I say "threw a drink on his face"? I don't understand why it is "in", but not "on". Is this a set collocation between "throw" and "face"?
I throw a cup of tea on his leg. Is it on his leg or in his leg?
Thanks
Is this a set collocation between "throw" and "face"? Yes. Note also that 'a drink' here usually means 'an alcoholic drink'.

But I've never heard of anyone deliberately throwing a drink on someone's leg.
