Threw out all that depth of despair

Hi

Is this an idiom? Throw out all that...
Though the times were very hard, I never, never threw out all that depth of despair.
Please help me understand the use if it's NOT an idiom.

Thanks,

Tom

Hi Tom I'm not sure I understand what you are actually targeting. The words "threw out all that depth of despair" are not an idiom. However, I would say that "depth(s) of despair" would be a fairly common collocation.

  • "Throw out" frequently means "get rid of" or "dispose of".
  • In your sentence the intended meaning seems to be more along the lines of "give off".
