Three versions

Hi,

If you could tell me which of the following phrases are correct AND COMMON in modern English?
  1. things that (don't) have life
  2. things without/with life
  3. inanimate things
I wonder if (1) and (2) are both ok? "equally common"?

An inanimate object is one that USED TO BE live in the past but is not any longer?
Or maybe (3) is just "never ever" used in real life? :-)
