"Three times in a row" - meaning

Good day. I am playing in a game and translate some dialogs to improve my language skill.

It's a part of a dialogue:

"The people on the boat were in dismay, surely and "unlucky person" was the one to blame for the situation. To find a person responsible fate was put in a "lucky draw". The fate of the wealthy son seemed grim however, as he was deemed "unlucky" three times in a row ."

What does the phrase "three times in row" means?
Is it a idiom ?
Did not find clear explanation!
Kind regards !
