Three lines

Hi

In the book about magic the author writes about the spells with keys.

Obtain as many old keys as you have doors in your home. Moving slowly through your house, take a key, touch it to the door, and repeat this until each key has touched one door. While doing say each time:

Lock out thieves in the night

Lock out thieves in the light

Lock out thieves out of sight

I'm not sure I understand these three lines.

Do they say:

I lock out the door and leave the thieves in the night (or maybe we're referring to the door saying: Lock out and leave the thieves in the night)

The next one:

Does "in the light" here mean "during the day"?

The last one:

Maybe: Lock out (my door) and keep the thieves away from here?

Thanks

First, they are imperative sentences (commands). I think your paraphrases are right; here are mine: Lock out thieves in the night - - Lock out thieves during the night Lock out thieves in the light -- Lock out thieves during the daytime Lock out thieves out of sight -- Keep thieves so far away that I cannot see them. (For the rhythm of the chant, an extra 'out' has been added, of course.
