Three for one icecream

Hi guys,

When you hear those words "three for one icecream" on sale, what do you think they are?
Do the words "three for one" mean "three items for a price of one" or "a package in which three items are in"?
What are they related to the price anyway?

Thanks for your help~

It would mean three items for the cost of one. I've not heard of a three-for-one offer though - that would be very generous. Two-for-one offers are quite common.

Three for one = three for (the price of) one. That, indeed, is a great deal. It's the equivalent of paying only one third the price.

In the States we often have "twofor sales": two for the price of one; or buy one, get one free.
