In my mother tongue, this thing is known as a 'thousand function plug', but what is it called in the UK/US?

In the US it would often be called an outlet adapter . Often they provide for three plugs to be inserted, and then they may be called a triple tap outlet adapter or triple tap . If you have the kind which has several outlets in a long rectangular box, with a cord and a plug, it is often called a power strip .
