Thoughts that distract ~~~

I don't know what words are there for expressing thoughts that distract his study, work, talk and so on.

Please give me appropriate phrases or words in each situation below. Plus, if there are words other than the situations, tell me.

1. (talking about his wife)

A: I like the way she thinks

B: Ah.. what did you say?

C: Hey where were you when I was talking? (or were you daydreaming?)

2. (Mom speaking to her child who can't concentrate his study)

Son, stop having random thoughts(petty thoughts?), and focus on your study!

Hi

You have some good ideas there. I like..

- Where were you when I was talking?

(This echoes a song - Where were you when I was falling in love?)

- Were you daydreaming?

- Stop having random thoughts

I can also think of..

- Shall I say that again when you've stopped thinking?

Best regards, Dave
