Thoughts

Quote from a movie:

I thought General Eric is in charge. Shouldn't it be:

I thought General Eric was in charge.

I thought the past tense should always follow thought.

And

I just arrived at the fitness center and they won't let me join. I say:

I came all the way from Texas. Or

I've come all the way from Texas.

Are both useable?

Can you say:

I don't mind you.

Does it make sense?

Thanks!

I would use "was". Definitely.
PreciousJonesI came all the way from Texas. OrI've come all the way from Texas.
I've come makes it more relevant to your current situation, so I'd say that. There's nothing grammatic
