According to Chapter 5, intrinsic motivation is far more important than extrinsic motivation. However, it is hard to have a intrinsic motivation in the society where a person is recognized only when he is highly educated. Before students' are motivated to achieve self-actualization, it often forced to be replaced by other motivations. It may sounds weird but I think having extrinsic motivation is a lot better to have nothing because at least those students' will stay school to achieve the motivation.If a student have intrinsic motivation to something fortunately, I think letting him alone is the best way to develop his motivation. After I entered high-school, my father suggested me subscribe to The Korean Times. He must be thinking that my English skills would be improved if I read newspapers in English. Obviously. the result was awful. I lost interest in English more and more I read it and in the end I just throw the paper in the trash bin. Given a overwhelming material which was full of inunderstandable words not only dropped my interests in the language but also made me don't care it at all. Therefore, when teachers choose course material, drill or task, it should not too much work for students.
Chapter 4 and 5 shows me how to make up the ideal language class. But questions remain whether these principles and motivations could be realized in our educational system.
