Galatasaray's semi-final match with Leeds in Britain had been thought to lead to bloody events. _____, no drop of blood was shed by any English supporter neither before nor after the match.

Which option is correct. I think "A" is Ok, but I can't explain why "E" is wrong. Or the other way round?
