"Did John go to the theatre?"

"Yes, but he didn't go to the park, though."

Does the second comma in the second sentence have any right being there?
There have been many other contexts in which I have used a comma like this, (incorrectly, I'm almost entirely sure) and was just wondering if anyone could help me out.

It's not wrong, though in a context like that I probably wouldn't use a comma because a pause doesn't seem necessary.
