though

Hi,

Can we use the conjunction 'though' like this where a clause doesn't follow it but what follows is what seems to be a participle phrase?

Though been in the city for three years, he doesn't know how to go places.

Though been playing basketball for a long time, he doesn't play well.

Does what follows it always have to be a clause? The conjunction 'while' seems to work without having a clause following it.

I played tennis while chewing gum.
