Those in place of these??!

Hi everybody.

I know that the following question may seem stupid, but during a peer-review of a document I wrote, I was told to use 'those' where I always thought it was right to use 'these'. For example, let's say that I'm about to write a list of problems. I would say "these problems are: (a list of problem)".
However I was suggested to use those: "those problems are: (a list of problem)".
AFAIK 'these' must be used to indicate close objects. Is it better to use 'those' in situations like the example above?

Thank you.

'These' seems fine to me. But I'd have to read all or a lot of your document to get a feeling for your overall tone. Clive

To introduce the two blocks used to report important informations I've written the following sentence: "important informations and warnings are written inside blocks like these: (follows the picture of the blocks)".
Using 'those' here (i.e. "blocks like those") doesn't sound righ

Use 'this' and 'these' to refer to information that follows.
Use 'that' and 'those' to refer to information that precedes.

The question in your example is whether it's more important to refer back to a mention of problems that occurred earlier in your text (those) or more important to refer forward to the list of problems that will follow (these).

Hi CJ,

Use 'this' and 'these' to refer to information that follows.
Use 'that' and 'those' to refer to information that precedes.

Maybe you make that distinction without realizing it?

Does that one sound all right to you?
