if you are at the bakery ordering cupcakes, you would tell the clerk you wanted two of those, and possibly be pointing as those is a demonstrative pronoun, designating which ones. if you had already decided on which cupcakes to buy, you would tell the clerk you wanted two of them, referencing the chosen cupcakes from previous discussion.
