Dear Saska,

Thank you for your reply. It helps.

I'd like to ask more about "due to." How about the following sentence?

Dr. Alan Gardiner, who is to decipher the papyri found among Tutankhamen’s relics, has pointed out that to him were really due the wonderful sculptures of the Festival of Opetemble of Luxor, although his name was cut out and replaced everywhere by that o

I'd suggest you make a search at Yahoo for:

"due to" dictionary

you will find several good dictionary pages.

In your latest example, it was
Tutankhamen which caused those things to be built.

Hello Filha da P.,

Generally, you can think of

1. X is due to Y.

as

2. Y is responsible for X.

or

3. Y caused X to occur.

also I think you can say "the essay is due X"
Meaning you have to have it ready and finished on X. This I used to confuse with "due to". Don't do the same ; )

Yes indeed. We say "the parcel is due to arrive next Tuesday." In this context "due" = "scheduled".

You might also see: "The meeting was cancelled due to unforeseen circumstances." In this context "due to" = "because of".
