This was the responsibility I had undertaken myself.

Hi

Could you please tell me if these are natural utterances? Any suggestions please?

(The writer is talking about feeding the birds at home -- he volunteered and others let him be fully responsible for it.)

This was the responsibility I had undertaken myself.

This was the responsibility I had enforced on myself.

This was the responsibility I had thrust upon myself.

Thanks,

Tom

3. is okay but the phrase "thrust upon myself" is overly poetic for everyday speech. The words "responsibility" and "myself" are difficult to use in the same sentence.

They're all OK. It depends on which register you want to say it in. All of your sentences are in a rather high register. I think an ordinary middle-class person would say something more like I took this responsibility on myself.
