This time around

"As per the given rules, the UP government charges Rs one crore for an ODI and Rs 50 lakh for a Test from the UPCA. Nothing new has been asked from the cricket association this time around."

I could understand it as "this time" but I wonder why "around" is added here. Could you please explain to me this?

There isn't a great deal of difference in meaning between "this time around" and "this time". The word "around" reinforces the sense that an event "comes around", or recurs, perodically. The version with "around" also feels slightly more colloquial.
