This talking of the list

The speaker shared with the audience that writing key points down on a paper helped him to remember it and then to handle a situation in his life. He speaks befront of audience so I try to understand what does it mean "this talking of the list"?

(At 15:23) I had in my life many similar experiences, where there was a situation of pressure and a challenge I wanted to overcome, and where this really helped me, this talking of the list.
The people I teach are CFOs who want to memorize financial statements...

He's not a native English speaker, so it's hard to know why he chose those words. Maybe he meant that it really helped him to have a list of talking points memorized before he made his speech. CJ
