In the following text the author lonely is watching a film of the life of a slumdog which is viewed exactly where the slumdog lives.
1. Does "this privileged audience of one" mean the author herself?
2. I can not understand the meaning of the next highlighted sentence. Does it mean "Although it is not a planned performance for me as a special audience, it actually looks like that to some degree (it is looks like a planned performance, because ..."?
All of a sudden the door opens and a figure emerges, exiting the subway up one of the sets of stairs. Same woollen hat, same two-tone anorak: it is Andreas, as if he had just walked straight out of the film. Five minutes later he is back, carrying a carton of milk, and disappears once more into his chamber. There is more rummaging. I realise this is not some kind of contrived part of a performance, a staged surprise for this privileged audience of one. Except to a certain extent it is exactly that, because it brings sharply into focus the fact that the performance of the film is the performance of his life. Unlike the other ‘characters’, who do not act as such but who are nevertheless evidently engaged in the playing out of an ‘exercise’ – which is over now – what you see in the film is just what Andreas does and is still doing.
