This or these?

Hello, I've been reading an article on BBC and saw this: http://imgur.com/uTjXxVh

The sentence in question is in the middle. Is this the correct usage? Could you write "Schemes like this..." or shouldn't it be "Schemes like THESE..."?

I've always had difficulty with the this/these usage and this one right here makes me wonder.

If they are discussing a certain scheme, then this is natural: "Schemes like this (one) are ..."

Yes, if the comparison of all the schemes in question is to the one scheme mentioned.

It is always possible to compare several things to one or one thing to several things.

Discussions like this don't actually help anyone. (referring to the one discussion in progress)
