This or that

I know this topic has been debated very often, but I'm not sure in this particular case. When someone shows you a photo and you want to know where it was taken, what do you ask:

"Where is this?" or
"Where is that?"

geoyo ... shows you a photo ... In the scenario you propose it makes absolutely no difference.

I'd probably say 'Where is this?'

Thank you. I would have guessed it's 'this', but apparently, there is not a huge difference and one can use both.

I have another question: What about a person on a photo, do you ask "who is that" or "who is this"? Does it matter?

No real difference.
